My view of quality UX design is that it starts simply: A user, a problem and a passion to solve this problem well.

 

Begin by aligning and sharpening your focus. Identify who has the problem and what value can grow out of solving it. Don't just take your own word for it. Put the problem in front of your users, ensuring it has legs and makes sense to fix.  When you're ready to commit, go deeper and empathize with your users. Walk in the their shoes, whatever that looks like. Then the sexy part: designing and sharing, co-designing and shaping  in as many cycles as necessary.  More below.
